Traffic Safety Plan for 2024-2025

Safety Notes for Parents:

The safety and security of our students is the top priority at Ratcliffe Elementary School. To that end, we have instituted procedures to ensure that Ratcliffe is a safe environment for students and staff. Throughout the year, we will conduct emergency drills with the students including fire drills, bus evacuation drills, tornado drills, earthquake drills, Lock & Teach drills and Lock & Hide drills. If you wish to know more about our emergency preparation, please visit: http://henricoschools.us/pdf/HealthSafety/CrisisPreparedness.pdf and download the handbook “Crisis Preparedness – Parents and School Emergencies.”

Anonymous Alerts:

Anonymous Alerts is for reporting information anonymously. It is designed to keep students safe from bullying, drugs, suicide, gangs, violence, and any other threats to student safety. If you feel the need to report a situation, please check out the Silence Hurts link on Ratcliffe’s Website: https://ratcliffe.henricoschools.us. See the “Anonymous Alerts” link on the menu bar below the picture of the school.

Family Reunification:

Included in the linked pdf file above are notes regarding family reunification plans. In the event of a crisis event at Ratcliffe, you may receive communication from the school asking you to pick up your child/ children immediately. If you are told to come to Ratcliffe Elementary School to pick up your student(s), utilize the school parking lot and street parking. You should report to the main entrance to sign your child out. You will be directed to the cafeteria, where you will be reunited with your student(s). If you are told to come to Harvie Elementary School (our sister school) to pick up your child(ren) utilize street parking. You should report to the cafeteria entrance. From that point, you will be escorted to meet your child.

In such a scenario, please remember to:

• make sure the person picking up the child(ren) is listed on the authorized pick-up list for all students.

• bring a government issued photo identification to the pickup point.

• For more information about where to report, please see the maps on the back of this sheet.

Digital Safety:

Danger can lurk anywhere, including the internet. Ratcliffe is an accredited “Common Sense Media School.” Ratcliffe staff conduct internet safety lessons with students throughout the school year that are both age-appropriate and current with digital safety trends.
